Lacham –

  1. (Qal) to fight, do battle
  2. (Niphal) to engage in battle, wage war

The Hebrew word for fight is Lacham and you can see that word 167 different times in the Old Testament because that time period was full of constant battle and war. And from 3950 BC to now, the war still wages on and we are to always be fighting.

Following Christ is all about fighting the good fight, every single day.

“Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” – 1 Timothy 6:12

Our great God has set us free, called us higher, and has now given us the opportunity to fight for Him, fight for each other, and fight against the evil.

My sweet and dear friend Morgan bought me the coolest ring for graduation that now sits on my finger every day. The ring says fight and it stands as a constant reminder for me to fight the good fight. Morgan wrote to me talking about all the things we have to fight for in this world and each day I keep realizing more and more about the things we are to be fighting for.

We have to fight to live a life with Christ as a our root. We have to fight against the lies. We have to fight against temptation. We have to fight against the darkness and fight to live in the light. We have to fight for the love of Jesus to win and conquer all. We have to fight for are friends, for our family, and for the people He places in front of us. We have to fight against the crippling fear. We have to fight our battles and fight with others in their battles.

The reason I’m writing about this right now is because Jesus has sown the word fight into my heart this past week. There is a lot I’m having to fight for right now in the transition of college. I’m having to fight against all my fears that at times ingulf me. I’m having to fight through the challenges with my head problems. I’m having to fight to see Jesus in all things. I’m learning what it looks like to fight for friends at home, new friends in Athens, and friends spread out at other colleges. I’m having to fully fight the good fight of faith right now, and although it is hard and I’m lost in the midst of it all, I’m so thankful for what the Lord is teaching me.

Every day and in all my days, Jesus is worth fighting for. The eternity He has given us is worth the tears, the hurt, and the fight. My prayer for all you sweet friends is that you never stop fighting. Push on, persevere, and fight the good fight. And know that I am always here to be fighting right along side you. But more than that, He is fighting for you. Rest in this truth – “for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to face you.” Deuteronomy 20:4

Fighting heavily for you with so much love,
