The Mustard Seed Year

I’m only three days into freshmen year of college and I can see that this is the year of the mustard seed for me. What I mean by that is that I am already way far out of my comfort zone and see how the Lord is slowly beginning to plant new growth in me – which is so exciting and a bit terrifying at the same time because I have no idea what the process of the growth entails. This year is all about uncontrollable change and that is something I’ve always struggled with and that’s why I can see how God is starting to teach me what trust in uncontrollable change encompasses.

In Matthew 13:31-32 it says “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in the field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has growth it is longer than all the garden plants and becomes a tree.”

Honestly, I think that is one of the coolest things about God how He chooses to plant these little seeds in us to produce unbelievable growth. He desires to see us as a tree and I am all to excited about living my to grow into that tree with deep roots in Him. My prayer is that these sweet new mustard seeds cultivate into this heavily rooted tree.

On the flip side, I also pray that as the Lord brings growth in my life He also chooses to use me to plant mustard seeds into others. Within the three days I’ve been in Athens I’m already seeing how intentional God is and how much purpose there is in conversations. Even in all the small talk rush conversations God can be glorified or He can use a talk and that just gets me pumped. As I continue to meet new people about everywhere I walk I keep seeing how much I have ahead of me when it comes to learning to love people. That learning is all starting with this mustard seed He is planting and it’s only the beginning.

I want to encourage anyone who is struggling with the transition of change of these first few weeks of a new school year to cling onto the truth that God has you where He needs you right now. He will protect and provide and He is just planting these seeds to prepare you for this crazy new growth you’re about to experience.
